If you don’t know where you are going any road will do…

This abridged version of a conversation in a well-known children’s tale is often used to illustrate the benefits of business planning. The benefits of knowing where your business is going are generally accepted, not least because you can plan and direct resources accordingly to help you get to where you want to go – so, no wasted paths!

In the same vein, when it comes to getting terms and conditions for your business, planning is crucial. Copying contracts or pulling bits together from the internet may save time and money in the short term, but if no thought has gone into what you actually want them to achieve, you will not know whether or not they are doing what you want them to do. Sometimes taking any step forward makes us feel better, but if it’s not on the right path, in the long run, it may be counter-productive.
